Springboro High School (Ohio) Class of 2027 defensive lineman Cartier Napier is quickly becoming one of the fastest-rising prospects in the Midwest. Along with several Ivy League and MAC offers, Napier holds an offer from Pittsburgh and added an offer from Iowa last week.
Napier caught up with Midwest Preps about his offer from the Hawkeyes. After making an unexpected connection with defensive line coach Kelvin Bell who liked the 6-foot-3, 265-pound prospect’s tape, Napier received his second Power 4 offer so far.
“It was actually really sudden, I just started communicating with Coach Bell the night before,” Napier said. “He called my head coach the next morning. My coach then set up a call with him during our lift and he gave me the offer. I was super excited because it is a big opportunity for me.”
“I have only really communicated with Coach Bell, the d-line coach,” Napier said. “A lot of them recently followed me on X after but I have not communicated with them yet.”
Right now, Napier has a visit with Iowa scheduled for April 18. Other schools he plans to hit up are Eastern Michigan, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, and Harvard. He tells Midwest Preps that he is targeting a commitment date in June, “but if a school comes around and I really feel at home, it could be a little earlier.”
Napier has taken a liking to Bell – the Hawkeyes defensive line coach who has been with the team for eight seasons.
“I really like him, he is a very prestigious coach, he has been at Iowa for a while and nowadays you don’t really see that,” Napier said. “I am still learning about him but I respect what he has done for Iowa.”
“To me, Iowa is always that quality team that could get a big upset whenever,” he added. “Being an Ohio kid, the first thing that comes to mind is the 2017 game where Ohio State goes into Iowa and got blown out.”
He has added offers from Columbia, Army, and Miami-Ohio over the past week.
