In-State ’28 Edge Recaps Ohio State Visit

Westerville North High School (Ohio) Class of 2028 defensive ned Kenneth McCall visited Ohio State last week.  He caught up with Midwest Preps about his visit, including what stood out about the campus, facilities, coaching staff and future recruiting plans.

Give your impression of the OSU campus and football facilities.  What stood out to you and why?

My impression of OSU was how much history and success there is behind this program. Everywhere I went, I saw the achievements of past players and it shows that their success is real and really consistent over time.  Another thing is that everything was built with a purpose.  It’s all designed to develop and motivate players like me to get to the next level.

What do you think of Coach Day’s vision for the program and his leadership?

I think Ryan Day’s vision is to continue building a winning culture while holding everyone to a high standard. I see that through his players and coaching staff, they live and breathe success and accountability, they are also built on pushing each other every day. The best offensive players went against the best defensive players and that’s how you be great.

Which coaches on the staff were you able to develop a relationship with?  After seeing them on campus, what do you think of them?

The coaches I was able to build a relationship with were Coach Patrica, Coach Larry Johnson and Coach Tony Johnson who actually coached me in eigth grade. That stood out to me a lot because I knew I could be comfortable talking to the Johnsons and they treat me like family.  All three in common care about developing you as a person, not just a player. Another thing is that they will respect their players.  We were in a presentation and Coach Johnson explained to us that he would never cuss, disrespect or downgrade any of his players and that speaks volumes on a different level.
