We caught up with Centerville ’28 ChuChu Chidwuku at the GWOC Showcase at Centerville High School earlier this week about life, football, and what he’s looking for in a college team.
When did you start playing football? How did your interest start?
I started playing football my freshman year so I’ve only been playing for two years. I got interested as soon as I came to the U.S. As soon as I got introduced to the game I fell in love with it instantly. As soon as I went to Centerville High School I joined the team immediately. I love the game so much and I have a passion for it. I will keep working hard and stay dedicated as I step forward to reaching my dream.
What motivates you to play the game every day?
What motivates me to play the game of football is my late father who died several years ago. I play for my family and for him. It is my job to produce to the best of my ability and to make sure my family is taken care of. I do this for them and family always comes first. I also play for my Almighty father God, who has given me this opportunity I have in front of me. All glory to God because without him, I would not be here.
What part of football do you enjoy the most?
The part of football I enjoy the most is competing at a very high level and going against some of the best of the best in the state and the country. I love the physicality of the game so much. I also enjoy meeting my brothers every single day and going through tough times together which is making our bond even stronger.
How have you been planning over the off-season to make your team better and win state?
This offseason I’ve been focusing on team bonding because that is really essential if a football team wants to be the greatest it can be. We need to trust each other and love each as the brothers we are. I also focus on strengthening and conditioning, skill development, film studies and nutrition. As a team we need to develop ourselves and hold ourselves to a high standard.
What are you looking for the most in a college program? Who are some of the teams you’re interested in?
I am looking forward to meeting college coaches from a lot of outstanding colleges. I am looking very forward to the higher level of competition and the specialized coaching that will be given to me by these great colleges. I am also looking forward to meeting different schools and great colleges programs. There are many great teams and colleges out there. All in my opinion are open as I carefully consider where I can best develop myself and my athletic abilities and my academic goals. I am really excited to see where I fit best.
