Ironton High School held their annual 7v7 and Linemen Challenge event on Saturday afternoon, and among the standouts was Boyle County (Ky.) High School tight end Seneca Driver. The Oklahoma commit caught up with Midwest Preps on why he chose the Sooners, notably the chance to be coached by new tight ends coach Jason Witten.
“Just felt like the the family choice, the great program, went to playoffs last year,” Driver said. “Being coached by Coach Witten as a coach is pretty awesome, yeah. It’s the main reason too. He knows what he’s doing. He’s been in the league forever. I mean, great coach, great player.”
Driver chose Oklahoma over teams such as Notre Dame, Kentucky, Penn State, and Louisville. The Cardinals and Wildcats still reach out to Driver, but he tells Midwest Preps that he’s still on board with Oklahoma.
“They call me a lot to check on me,” Driver said of his communication with the Sooners. “It’s really about it. Just make sure I’m good.”
Driver, who played on both sides of the ball at Saturday’s tournament, made catch after catch on offense and had a couple of interceptions on the Justin Haddix-coached squad. With his recruitment settled, Driver is laser-focused on his upcoming senior year.
Boyle County opens up the season against Owensboro Catholic at Western Kentucky Stadium at 4 p.m. Aug. 22 at Western Kentucky University.
