When did you start playing football? How did your interest start?
My parents never really wanted me to get into football due to all the concussions and injuries. So up until 2nd grade, all I did was play soccer and basketball. I watched DeAndre Hopkins make that catch in Week 8 vs. the Dolphins in 2018. He jumped up and snagged it with one hand and pulled it between his legs. Once I saw that catch, I knew one day that would be me. Going into third grade, I begged my mom to sign me up, claiming that it was my passion. Starting that day, I’ve never looked back.
What motivates you to play the game every day?
One thing that motivates me is proving people wrong. I love proving people wrong. When people say I can’t do something, it makes me want to do it even more. Also, competition motivates me. I love to compete. Every moment in my life is a competition. Whether it’s on the field or in the classroom, I love to win. One quote that I heard really stuck with me: you need to hate losing more than you love winning. That explains me perfectly. I despise losing. That’s what fuels me to win. On top of that, I’m motivated by becoming the best version of myself. Football gives me a way to compete, improve every day, and prove that I can play at the highest level.
What part of football do you enjoy the most?
My favorite part of football is probably when the ball is thrown to me and it’s like the world almost slows down for me as I watch the ball enter my hands. Another part that’s amazing is when I run into the end zone and hear the crowd cheer. Those moments are just so pure.
How have you been planning over the off-season to make your team better and win state?
This offseason, I’ve been focused on developing myself physically and mentally so I can raise the standard at GBS. I’ve been working on my speed, hands, route running, and strength, but also studying lots of film so I can play at a faster pace and help my teammates grow. My goal is to lead by example and bring a different level of energy and accountability so we can compete for a state championship.
What are you looking for the most in a college program? Who are some of the teams you’re interested in?
I’m looking for a program at the Division I level that values development and competition. I want to be somewhere that’s going to push me, develop me, and give me the opportunity to prove I belong. I’m also looking for a strong business program so I can continue to grow off the field as well.
