We caught up with Class of 2029 Cahokia High School (Ill.) athlete Earnest Winters on his recruiting, the upcoming season and what he’s looking forward to the most in a college football team.
When did you start playing football? How did your interest start?
I started playing football at five years old and I got interested after going to the Terron Armstead football camp and meeting Todd Gurley. Watching him play and his play style really motivated me play football.
What motivates you to play the game every day?
What keeps me motivated today is watching my mom and seeing how hard she works every day. She is a single mother and my whole life she has sacrificed for me and my sister and, I feel like, if i make it to the NFL, she can relax and I can take care of her.
What part of football do you enjoy the most?
The part I enjoy of football the most is definitely the brotherhood you get from football. It feels great knowing I can go give my all and I have my brothers behind me ready to do the same thing.
How have you been planning over the off-season to make your team better and win state?
To win state this season, I plan on being a big part of the team my position coach plan on spending 1-2 hours after practice every day to become the best version of myself i possibly can this offseason. Workouts have already been intense and I’m all for it. I love the work.
What are you looking for the most in a college program?
I’m looking for a college program that has culture, welcomes me with open arms and a team that’s gonna push me to my limits. I’m currently looking for a school that fits me and my play style.
