Midwest Preps caught up with Carmel High School (Ind.) safety Drake Coellner about his recruiting, football, background and what he’s looking for in a college program.
When did you start playing football? How did your interest start?
I started playing football when I was 6 years old and it was flag football and my interest started because by dad played at Kansas and I wanted to be like him.
What motivates you to play the game every day?
One thing that motivates me every day to keep playing is my grandma, she has never missed a single game of mine and she is my biggest fan!
What part of football do you enjoy the most?
The thing I enjoy the most about football is how when I’m playing it, all distractions go away and it’s just me and the ball!
How have you been planning over the off-season to make your team better and win state?
I have been training about 2-3 times a day and working with my teammates and bringing them to the trainings as well.
What are you looking for the most in a college program?
The thing I’m looking the most for in a college program is my connection with the coaches for sure.
Who are some of the teams you’re really interested in?
Vanderbilt, Oregon, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Purdue, and Kentucky.
